[Game Review] Braid

Hello, this is CynicRabbit’s first game review.

Today I’m going to review about a game ‘Braid’, which is first released in 2009 as Xbox360 platform game. I got to know Braid after it was released for PC version.

Braid is 2D side-scrolling action game. The game’s goal is to defeat monsters and save the princess. The more you complete stages and gather pieces of puzzle, the more you get closer to her.

Does it sound familiar? Yes, Braid pays homage to the well-known ‘Super Mario Brothers’.

But don’t judge the game by this brief introduction. The world of Braid is much complicated than you think.

You can control 'Tim' only using Arrow keys, Space bar and Shift.

You can control 'Tim', Braid’s main character, only using Arrow keys, Space bar and Shift. Controlling is basically very simple but you have to put your brain to work to complete the stages.

Using Shift key, you can fast forward time. But each stage is under control of different laws of physics. To make it work, you have to apply Shift key in accordance with each stage.

Let’s take a look!

You can't rewind the objects shining in green.

As I wrote, you can fast forward time with Shift key, but the objects and monsters that shining in green are not under influence of time rewind.

You can gather puzzle pieces only using the gap between the things you can rewind and you can’t.

In stage 5, when you push Shift key, Tim’s shadow will appear and repeat his recent action.

In stage 5, when you push Shift key, Tim’s shadow will appear and repeat his recent action.

The shadow can handle objects that shining in purple. With this, you can do actions that are impossible on your own.

Every time Tim approaches to castles, the princess is not there. Where is she?

Gather the pieces enjoying Braid's beautiful back ground graphic and music.

Then you’ll access to whole picture of Braid’s story line, which was remaining uncertain.

The unexpected ending awaits you in the attic.

After completing stage 1~6, you can go up to the attic. The unexpected ending awaits you.

Who is the mysterious princess and where is she?

8 stars are hidden in each stage.

Braid is well-made action game with powerful, impressive ending. After you've seen ending, challenge to gather 8 stars hidden in each stage.

The stars will lead you to another secret ending.
